Pass! Shoot! Swish! An all-star team of YA authors scores spectacularly with an action-packed anthology about street basketball.

It’s one steamy July day at the West 4th Street Court in NYC, otherwise known as The Cage. Hotshot ESPN is wooing the scouts, Boo is struggling to guard the weird new guy named Waco, a Spike Lee wannabe has video rolling, and virgin Irene is sizing up six-foot-eightand-a-half-inch Chester. Nine of YA literature’s top writers, including Walter Dean Myers, Rita Williams-Garcia, Adam Rapp, Joseph Bruchac, and Sharon Flake reveal how it all goes down in a searing collection of short stories, in which each one picks up where the previous one ends. Characters weave in and out of narratives, perspectives change, and emotions play out for a fluid and fast-paced ode to the game. Crackling with humor, grit, and streetball philosophy, and featuring poems and photographs by Charles R. Smith Jr., this anthology is a slam dunk.

I am a special education teacher. This is the start of my 13th year teaching, but my 1st year in Racine Unified School District. I took this position to be closer to my own family, but have quickly fallen in love with the kids I work with. Although at times they ask for love in all the wrong ways, they are amazing kids.

I have a few students in my classroom that are truly hooked on sports books, especially basketball, and we are running out of books for them to read. This book would open up a door to another type of book that is related to sports that they may not have already read.

My current class is six 4th and 5th grade students. The students are in special education for behavioral/emotional needs. They struggle with reading and get frustrated very easily but have been working really hard this year to enjoy books. The district has given us a couple boxes of books to start our classroom library, but I am trying to encourage the students to reach out to get other books donated to their classroom library. It is hard to get them excited about books, but having them select books they'd want in their classroom has been encouraging.
